First Days with a New Foster Child
For many parents, fostering a child is a dream come true. You may have rosy visions of how the child will mesh perfectly in your family. While this is probably true, it also takes time to get there. For many children in the foster system, they have lived uncertain lives. Perhaps their own parents haven’t always been present, making them distrustful of adults.
Not only that, but they may have left a home where they were ignored, or worse abused. The child might be separated from siblings and struggling with leaving everything they’ve ever known. All of this requires a transition period. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do in the first days home that will ease this transition time.
